Best remembered for his 14-year spell at Real Madrid, with whom he won every available club competition including 5 La Liga and 3 Champions League Titles. Fernando famously captained ‘Los Blancos’ to their famous 2002 victory in Europe’s premier club tournament. To this day, he remains the club’s highest scoring defender of all time.
Fernando also captained the Spanish National team, for whom he scored 29 goals – a huge achievement for a defender. He is also the only person to have served as a player, sports director, and coach of the Spanish National team.
